Malone Kayak Trailer: Introduction
There are literally hundreds of kayak trailers on the market today, and the ballooning popularity of kayak fishing is causing more and more kayak trailers to come available on the market each day. Some of these new kayak trailers are very appealing, and some look like they could fall apart at any minute.
Some boast of outrageous “working load” weight capacities that simply cannot be true, and others neglect to mention what weight they can safely handle. KFC knew that a post must be written about one particular kayak trailer manufacturer, Malone Kayak Trailer, because it is a tried and true manufacturer.
Malone Kayak Trailer has been around for years. Its safety and quality record is well established, and it has a number of different makes and models, aside from those we showcase below, that are certain to meet your kayak fishing trailer needs.
If you are looking to remove the guesswork, and to entrust the safety of your vehicle and fishing kayak to one particular manufacturer of kayak trailers, Malone Kayak Trailer is right for you. Check out some of their most versatile models below (and check out how to secure your fishing kayak to the Kayak Trailer with our post on the Top 5 Straps for Kayak Trailer)!
My Experience
I first heard of Malone Kayak Trailer several years ago. My friend had recently experienced a defect in his kayak trailer, where the kayak trailer’s right rear axle separated from the frame while under transit. This caused the weight of the trailers kayaks to shift and almost caused my friend and his kayak trailer to swerve uncontrollably off the road. Fortunately, he was able to slow down and come safely to a stop on the shoulder. We knew it was time to find a top of the line kayak trailer. No more close calls!
We found Malone Kayak Trailer and were immediately impressed by its high quality construction, components, parts, and welded joints. It scored high marks on stability when under transit, and handled bumpy dock ramps with ease. It also came pre-equipped with all of the electronic safety devices that we wanted for DOT compliance (rear taillights, included wiring, etc.). This Kayak Trailer proved to be a winner for my friend and I. Let’s take a look at some of their models below:
Model #1

Let’s start with the Malone Kayak Trailer with a very recognizable feature. The crossbars of this particular Kayak Trailer are equipped with four pairs of “J” Mouth kayak racks. Four pairs means four fishing kayaks can be safely transported. The “J” Mouth design makes loading and unloading your fishing kayak very simple, and the angle of the rack prevents the fishing kayak’s hull from becoming deformed by properly dispersing the fishing kayak’s weight.
The steel frame of this Kayak Trailer is built to withstand loads of over 350 pounds, and its strength remains uncompromised due to its rust resistant galvanized finish. Please, please, never buy a kayak trailer that isn’t built with a galvanized finish. It will rust to the point of danger within one year, and simply isn’t worth risk.
Measuring in at 164″ in length and 78″ in width, this Malone Kayak Trailer is wide enough to stay stable at high speeds, and the extended “tongue” (the connection piece, which is depicted in the top image above) allows the kayak fisherman to trailer fishing kayaks of up to 19 feet long. This is longer than most fishing kayaks, and should afford you plenty of room for hauling!

Perhaps there is no Malone Kayak Trailer more unique in appearance than the above, and this is due to its padded “V” kayak racks. This “V” styled kayak rack makes loading and unloading your fishing kayak tremendously easy, and the included scraping makes securing your fishing kayak to just the right level of tension a breeze. Check out the pull down design below:
This Kayak Trailer can handle loads of up to 275 pounds, more than enough for two fishing kayaks. The remaining specs, being 14 feet long, 164 pounds, 58 inches in width and 134 inches in length make this particular kayak trailer very flexible. Perfectly adequate for long road trips, and just as practical for a trip around the corner to the local lake.
Malone Kayak Trailer designs its products to sit on top of what it calls a “T-Box” design, which we believe is a critical feature affording this Kayak Trailer line its stability and longevity. Again, as is common to many of the Malone Kayak Trailer family, this kayak trailer is comprised of high quality, marine-grade galvanized steel, and is wisely constructed with a leaf spring suspension (depicted below) which aides the driver in ensuring a bumpy road doesn’t turn into a bumpy ride!
Shown above is one of the 8-inch diameter high speed wheels featured on this Malone Kayak Trailer, and if you look closely you can see the wiring system leading to the DOT approved, already included, lighting system. The above picture doesn’t feature the 58 inch wide, coated steel loading bars that are the base for the “V” rack, but you can see these loading bars depicted in earlier photos. These loading bars are customizable, and can have a number of other kayak racks integrated into them.

What if you don’t want to buy a Malone Kayak Trailer with included kayak racks, and instead would rather opt for a Malone Kayak Trailer that you could customize exactly to your liking? Well, you are in luck, as you can see above. This particular Malone Kayak Trailer is “stripped” of kayak racks, and affords you a “blank slate” in terms of the empty loading bars.
Suppose you decide that you do in fact want to use the “J” Mouth or “V” Mouth kayak racks depicted above. Do not worry, Malone Kayak Trailer sells these pieces independently, and you’ll be able to swap them onto and off on the loading bars as you see fit. Take a look at the zoomed in photo of your blank canvass below:
This Malone Kayak Trailer measures in at 48 inches in width and 48 inches in length. It is one of the lightest in the Malone Kayak Trailer family, weighing in at 149 pounds. Don’t let its light weight fool you, however, as we’ve seen many testimonials stating that kayak fishermen have had this kayak trailer at 65 miles per hour without any stability issues. You can get where you are going quickly, and safely of course.
Finally, this Malone Kayak Trailer comes with many of the features common to the Malone Kayak Trailer line, including the above depicted electrical wiring and connection points, as well as the high capacity fail safe connection chain. If you want to be creative with your kayak trailering, KFC suggests you select this model and then customize however you see fit! Be sure to let us know how it turns out!
Model #4

This particular Malone Kayak Trailer, featuring “Sea Wing” kayak racks is again constructed of a galvanized steel frame allowing the kayak trailer to comfortably support over 350 pounds. I don’t know about you, but I’m not aware of any combination of two fishing kayaks that weighs over 150 pounds, much less 350!
Most kayak fishing destinations are, at some point, going to take you along some very bumpy, and perhaps mountainous, terrain. It is critical that your kayak trailer be capable of withstanding the pressures put upon it while traversing these type of conditions, and the Malone Kayak Trailers you see highlighted in this KFC post are up to the task. Fishing kayaks are expensive and treasured pieces of equipment. Don’t jeopardize the safety of your fishing kayak, your vehicle, others, or yourself, by opting to purchase a kayak trailer constructed of anything other than quality steel.
You can see that the included “Sea Wing” kayak cradles are designed to be removable. The extra space on the Malone Kayak Trailer loading bar can be connected to any number of after market kayak products for purposes of storing your gear.
This Malone KayakTrailer, like the others depicted above, includes bright brake lights, essential for ensuring that vehicles behind your are on notice of your actions when slowing down, and keep your fishing kayak safe from a rear end collision!
The included tie down straps are heavy duty and are more than enough to secure your fishing kayak safely within the kayak cradles. The kayak cradles are raised and angled in a manner that keeps your fishing kayak safe from potential deformation that otherwise could be caused by laying at an inappropriate angle.
Finally, the wheels are galvanized, and the kayak trailer even comes with a spare tire in case you get into a bind while out on the road. It is thoughtful safety features like those mentioned above that demonstrate to KFC that Malone Kayak Trailer is one of the best in the business!
